Through this program, Housing Opportunities, Inc. works with individuals and families to determine the best strategies for managing finances so that a mortgage payment can fit their lifestyle. For those with credit troubles, we can also help develop ideas for repairing their credit rating. Education and preparation are two of the keys to successful home ownership. Housing Opportunities, Inc. is also a Housing and Urban Development (HUD) approved housing counseling agency. The pre-purchase program includes one-on-one assessment and counseling, as well as group sessions covering:
- Budgeting and money management
- Selecting a realtor
- Choosing a home
- The mortgage process
- Loan closing
- Predatory lending
- Foreclosure prevention
Homebuyer Education Classes - Class Flyer- To qualify for these free classes, you must
- Be a resident of Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski or Starke County who has not owned a home in the past three years
- Have household income less than 80% of the area median income for a family of four:
- Jasper County = $52,550
- Lake County = $52,900
- LaPorte County = $48,300
- Newton County = $52,900
- Porter County = $52,900
- Pulaski County = $55,200
- Starke County = $42,900
For those with poor credit, we can also help develop a strategy for repairing a damaged credit rating.
