Low income families may apply to Housing Opportunities for help in purchasing an existing home with a approximate value up to $126,000. To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Household income may not exceed 80% of the area median income.
- Completion of Homebuyer Education classes (provided free by Housing Opportunities)
- The home must be located in Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter or Starke County
Down payment assistance is also available to qualified families that attend the Home Buyer Education Classes. There is a 3 to 1 match of money up to $4500 to cover earnest money, inspections and insurance.
